Texas has more than 300,000 victims of human trafficking, including nearly 79,000 minors involved in sex trafficking, according to University of Texas research in a groundbreaking study. In addition, about 234,000 workers are victims of labor trafficking in Texas.
The study, produced by the by the Institute on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault at UT’s School of Social Work, defines human trafficking as the act of one person being controlled through violence, deception or coercion in situations of commercial sex, forced labor, or domestic servitude.
